The Rock Wall of Rockwall, Texas

Rockwall is a city in Texas, United States. The name Rockwall is derived from a naturally jointed geological formation, which has the appearance of an artificial wall.
I knew there was a city in Texas named Rockwall, but I didn't know the origins of the name. As you can read above, the wall is allegedly natural. Based on what I've read and watched, some people question that.

In the early 1850s, farmers were digging a well and discovered a rock wall that crossed the county and at some places appeared above ground level. Scientists have determined that this is a natural formation, but folk tales continue to say that it was built by prehistoric natives. When the town of Rockwall was formed, it was named for the rock formation.
The buried wall is claimed to be close to 20 miles long, and about seven stories deep.

Youtube autoplay is how I learned about this wall. This mainstream show could be an attempt to demonstrate that scientists are questioning our history and verifying things for themselves. One way or the other, it's actually a pretty entertaining piece.

I don't think I have an opinion on this wall just yet. It's doubtful that we are allowed to see all the photographs, especially the ones made in the 19th century.

This Texas wall is artificial. When you build a rock wall you have to stagger the joints for added strength and so large cracks don't develop. This wall has staggered joints. Here is an example of a wall I built on the outside of my house, notice the staggered joints, well my redneck attempt.

I live close to Rockwall and the stories that were told are a bit different then what you have here? Supposedly the city had men working on a foundation for a new building near the City Hall. When the basement was excavated a chamber was broken into. That led into a very tall room with a large bed in the room. There were many hallways, tunnels, going in different directions. some were miles long and did extend outside the shown wall perimeter.

The City decided it was too dangerous down there and blocked the tunnels off then backfilled the holes. I think this was around 1945-1955. not my cup of tea so did not pay much attention.

At one time there were decent sketches made by the first men down the hole. If my memories are close to correct there was a first discovery made very early on. them much later the City Hall excavation.
 
The dome wall in that photo looks to me to be decorative as the underlying structure is likely concrete or earth bags. Do you have a link to it as neither google or tineye can find it?

In the history channel video, I thought it was interesting that the core samples were all taken from the center of what appeared to be one big stone.

I’m no geologist, but to me it seems like if I were truly trying to ascertain whether artificial or natural, I would have gotten cores of the mortar as well. Here’s where I would have taken the samples:
